ALL THE CORONATIONS

“Crowned King of England,” by Philip 4 Lindsay (London: Ivor Nicholson and Watson).

So much has already been written about the crowning of England’s Klugs that one finds it hard to realise that the subject was not long ago exhausted. Philip Lindsay, however, l*as discovered an unexplored avenue of interest in the subject; he gives a detailed account of every one of England’s 3G Kings or Queens since William I entered Westminster Abbey to have the crown of England placed upon his head.

He prefaces his book with a detailed account of coronation procedure as it has been from earliest times, and also devotes a certain amount of space to a biography of the present King and his family, and to the events that led up to his accession to the throne. This first section, comprising nearly onethird of the book, contains nothing that is not familiar to every man who reads his daily paper, but Mr. Lindsay can feel proud of the remainder of his book, which presents in an attractive form a wealth of information which would otherwise be inaccessible to a great section of the reading public.
