WRANGLE IN COMMONS
Labour Member Suspended London. April 23. The Speaker had to be brought from his bed to the House of Commons to suspend Mr. Aneurin Bevan (Labour, Monmouth) during a rowdy scene in the debate on the Special Areas Bill. With many members in evening dress, the House was still sitting after an all-night committee wrangle as broad daylight flooded the Chamber. Annoyed by the repeated application of the closure, Mr. Bevan shouted to the committee chairman, Sir Dennis Herbert. “Your conduct is abominable,” Refusing to withdraw, he was suspended, and the committee stage of the Bill was resumed. The Bill aims at the organisation of special Governnjent aid for areas where unemployment is causing much distress.
