Yesterday’s Business RETURN ON INVESTMENTS Sales recorded on Dominion Sluck Exchanges yesterday arc shown in the following list. In the second column is given the return based on the last annual dividend from investment al the quoted price. In calculating the return on shares in companies which pay their dividends outside New Zealand the exchange rates have not been taken into consideration. The return on 4 per cent. ANDERSONS, LTD. Improved Results A net profit of £11,973, against £11.766 last year, is shown in the accounts of Andersons. Limited, Christchurch, to March 31, 1937. Final dividends of 2} per cent., making 5 per cent, for the year, are recommended on preference and ordinary capital, and £(5500 is to be placed in reserves. Tlie directors state that the company has experienced a continuance of the improved conditions, with satisfactory trailing results. The Christchurch works, in particular, have been employed th>iiighont the J ear at high pressure, while within recent months valuable contract work has been secured which will keep flic Lyttelton works fullj' employed for the next 12 months. Issue of Preference Shares

Australian Paper Manufacturers. Ltd is making an issue of 1.000.000 G per cent, cumulative preference shares of it each to finance expansions of operations, particularly the establishment of the paper pulp industry in Gippslnnd and the installation of new plant and machinery at on - or more of its mills in New South Wales or Victoria. The present issued capital is £1.0(10.(100 in 2,000,000 ordinary shares of ](>/-. of which -100,000 are paid to 0/7.. The whole of the new issue has been underwritten by Messrs. ,1. 11. Were and Son, who have exercised their right to the firm allotment of -10.0,000 shares, and have agreed to make 50.000 shares available for subscription by (lie staff and employees of Australian Paper Mannfncturrers, Ltd., up to 500/100 shares will be reserved for application by the Australian I’aper and Pulp Co., Ltd., and Cumberland Paper Board Mills. Ltd.. or their nominees. These .two companies own all the present capital of Australian Paper Manufacturers, Ltd. As Australasian Paper and Pulp owns about 77 per cent, of the operating company’s capital, it will have rights over about 388.00 ft of the new preference

shares. Ordinary and preference shareholders in Australasian Paper and Pulp will, therefore, have the right to apply for about one new preference share in the new issue for four shares now Imld. Cumberland Paper’s proportion will be 112.000 new shares, also equivalent to one in four for its own shareholders. The remaining 100,000 shares will be available for application by the public.
