DELIVERY OF MILK IN WELLINGTON
Change in Hours for Winter Months From May 1 the roundsmen of the Wellington municipal milk department will commence work at 6 a.m. and will work on until 12.40 p.m. Since August last, when tlie 40-hour week became operative, these men have commenced their work at 2 a .pt. and finished at 8.40 a.m. IVitli tlie coming of the winter the union of which the. men are members approached the general manager, Mr. R. Herron, for a change in hours and, as the result of a conference, it was decided that for the months of May, June, July and August the roundsmen should not commence work until 6 a.m.—four hours later than at present. In September the hours will revert to 2 a.m.-8.40 a.m. daily once more. The hours mentioned include a 20minute break for breakfast. The effect of the change will be that most milk consumers in the city will, during the winter months, not have the new day’s milk delivered before breakfast. It is estimated that only about one-third of the householders will receive their milk before 8 a.m.—the rest between that time and 12.40 p.m. This will mean that people will have to see overnight that there is enough milk for the next morning’s breakfast. From the standpoint of freshness there will lie nothing to worry about, as lite months of late delivery are, as a rule, tlie coolest in the year.
