Doubts as to whether the Government would fix a Dominion milk price under the Board of Trade Act were expressed by Mr. G. C. Pickett in addressing a meeting of Christchurch milk producers. Mr. Pickett pointed out that not only would such a move need the preparation of a national inquiry into costs, but that once the price was arrived at it would very likqly be unsatisfactory because of differing conditions. In Auckland, for example, they had a two-mouths’ winter, while in Christchurch the winter was considered to last six months, meaning heavy additional hand-deeding costs.
