POLICE PAY AND HOURS
Improvements Warmly Welcomed “The announcement by the Minister in Charge of Police, Hon. P. Fraser, of improvements in the pay and hours of woj'k of the police force will be warmly welcomed by all members of our asso elation,” s,aid Mr. I. D. Campbell, general secretary of the New Zealand Police Association yesterday. In a recent statement the Minister announced a reduction in the hours from 56 to 48 a week, and, in view of the fact that this was still in excess of the 40-hour week, an advance in the weekly pay. “Perhaps in no other branch of the Public Service are the duties more arduous and exacting than those performed by police and detectives, and these concessions represent a considerable advance in the conditions under which the men have been working,” said Mr. Campbell. “The efforts of the Minister and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. D. J. Cummings, to bring the concessions into effect are appreciated by all members of the force.”
