Ministerial. The Hou. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, returned to Wellington by aeroplane yesterday from Dunedin. He was accompanied by Mrs. Jones and his private secretary, Mr. F. M. Sherwood. Sir Charles Campbell, North Canterbury, left for the south by the steamer express last night. Sir Francis Frazer, deputy-chairman of the Executive Commission of Agriculture, was a passenger for the South Island last night. Sir Frederick H. Tout, a director of the A.M.P. Society, a director of Sun Newspapers, Sydney, and a prominent grazier of New South Wales, arrived at Wellington yesterday in the Awatea on a brief business visit. He is to open the A.M.P. Society’s new district offices at Palmerston North and will return to Sydney in the same vessel on Wednesday. Mr. Pat Lawlor, Wellington, is visiting Christchurch. Mr. R. J. Murphy left Wellington last night for the south. Flight-Lieutenant F. J. Denton was a passenger for the South Island by the steamer express last night. Mr. E. J. Fletcher, of the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Captain J. Rankine, of the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd., travelled north by the Limited last night. Mr. D. Barnes, M.P. for Waitaki, and Mrs. Barnes, left for the south by the steamer express last night. Mr. John Dunlop, Seaward Downs, a member of the New Zealand Dairy Board, left Wellington last night for the South Island. Dr. J. C. McKenzie, Melbourne, was a passenger in the Awatea, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Sydney.

Mr. C. J. Pugsley, manager of the Southern Cross Assurance Company, Ltd., left Wellington for Dunedin and Invercargill last night.

Dr. 11. W. Jack, Director of Agriculture, Fiji, who is spending a short holiday in New Zealand, left Wellington lust night for the South Island.

Dominion Secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, left last evening for a three weeks’ deputation tour of Otago and Southland.

Dr. E. F. D’Arth, professor of Pathology at the University of Otago, returned to New Zealand in the Awatea yesterday after attending the eighth Australian Cancer Conference. He left for the south last night. Dr. W. Hellenthal, German Consul in New Zealar 1 and Samoa, is to leave Wellington to-day by the Maui Pomare on a visit to Western Samoa and American Samoa. He is expected to return by the Matua on May 19. The Hon. G. R. Hunter, M.L.C., Christchurch, returned to New Zealand from Australia in the Awatea, which arrived at Wellington yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Hunter, and left for the south last night. Mr. Ken Austin, general manager of the Elderslie Stud, Oamaru, arrived at Wellington in the Awatea from Australia yesterday. He was accompanied by his wife and two daughters, and left for the south by the steamer express last night. Mr. C. B. Michie, chairman of directors of the Kaitaia Dairy Company, is to leave New Zealand in May as leader of the solar eclipse expedition to Canton Island, in the Phoenix Group. He has been presented with a portable typewriter and a cheque on behalf of the shareholders.

Mr. D. Lammers, resident manager at Sydney for the K.P.M. (Royal Packet Navigation Co., Ltd.), arrived at Wellington yesterday in the Awatea to make preparations for the company’s new service, which include calls at Wellington and Auckland. He will return to Sydney on May 15 by the Maetsuycker.

Dr. P. Clennell Fenwick, head of the radium department of the Christchurch Hospital, returned to New Zealand from Australia by the Awatea yesterday. He attended the eighth Australian cancer conference at Canberra from April 13 to 16, and read a paper on cancer of the lip. Dr. and Mrs. Fenwick left Wellington for the south by the steamer express last night.

The Rev. Belshazzar Gina, who has spent eight years as a missionary in the Wjest Solomons, is visiting Wellington in the course of a deputation to New Zealand. Mr. Gina was educated at a Methodist- district school in the Solomons and later at the Wesley College, Paerata, before being admitted to the Methodist Church as a minister and returning to his native Islands. Mr. J. A. Frizzell, ground engineer of the Canterbury Aero Club at Soekburn for the last 12 months, has received an appointment to the staff of Phillips and Powis Aircraft, Ltd., England. Mr. Frizzell, who is a son of Mr. J. R. Frizzell, Christchurch, sailed for England by the Opawa last week.

,Mr. Patrick Murdoch, the young New Zealand baritone, and Mr. Ernest Empson, both of Christchurch, recently took part in a concert in Sydney for the Soldiers and Sailors’ War Memorial Chureh. Mr. Murdoch’s singing received favourable notice from newspaper critics, and Mr. Empson was also commended for his playing.
