By

STATISTICIAN

rpHEY say that figures can be made X to prove anything, but the fact remains that figures cannot lie. The impressive tables presented below are a tribute to a great cricketer, E. F. Upham, and provide a record which could well be the pride of any cricketer.

First of all, however, he would like to mention that “Ernie” Upham commenced his career in senior club matches in 1890-1 season for Midland, and represented that club every season till the introduction of district cricket in 1909-

10, when he became associated with North. He played his first representative match for Wellington in November, 1892, against Hawke’s Bay, and his last was against Canterbury, at Wellington, in January, 1910. He was an indispensable unit of the New Zealand representative teams for many years, and compiled the following record iu first-class cricket:— BOWLING.

BATTING.

He was third in the averages in 1892-3, and was second in 1899-1900. The figures for 1890-91, 1900-1 and 1910-11 are not available; they were poor seasons. ’Po summarise, therefore, we find that E. F. Upham's record in senior championship and representative cricket reads ns follows: — BOWLING. Runs’. Wickets. Average. 12 835 1070 UDO BATTING. Inn. N.O. ILS. linns.
