The “Daily Telegraph’s” Bucharest, correspondent says that the Fascist Iron Guards’ championship of Prince Nicholas against King Carol is causing anxiety to the Government and the Court. , General Cantacuzenu, commander of the Iron Guard, summoned party leaders and began his speech with “Long Live Prince Nicholas.” adding, “We will not abandon the light as long as one man is left to carry it on. The struggle will be only the more terrible if Prince Nicholas is turned out of the country he loves so dearly.” A deputation of the Iron Guard which was attempting to see Prince Nicholas at his country palace found.he was under “house arrest” by King Carol. Gendarmerie prevented their approach. Another Iron Guard delegation saw Dr. Maniu, who is the real though not titular head of the National Peasant Party and an enemy of the Iron Guard. The delegation offered cooperation in a national struggle to force King Carol to break with Madame Lupescu and send her into exile. Dr. Maniu undertook to consult his party. Prince Nicholas, who is the only brother of King Carol of Rumania, resigned his rank and titles as a protest against Carol’s refusal to recognise the validity of his morganatic marriage in 1931 with a divorcee. The Bucharest correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says Prince Nicholas’s morganatic marriage dispute reached a climax in connection with his appointment to represent Rumania at the English Coronation.
