FAREWELL TO BUSINESS EXECUTIVES

Ross and Glendining, Ltd. A farewell was recently given to Messrs. W. W. Greig and T. S. Mayer, who are retiring from executive positions in Ross and Glendining Ltd., Wellington. A presentation on behalf of the staff was made by the manager, Mr. AV. J. A. Chartres, who said it was a unique occasion for the firm, in that both were retiring on superannuation, in recognition of their admirable career, after 47 years service. Mr. Greig, who joined the firm as a boy, ami who for many years held the office of finance manager and accountant, nas presented with a silver tea service on a silver tray suitably engraved, and Air. Alayer (mill department managed) received a leather armchair. Later a dinner was given by the manflgement and departmental headt?. aha chairman. 3lr. Chartres, in proposing the toast of the guests, said that both Air. Greig and Mr. Alayer had built up a reputation for themselves of honesty and. integrity throughout the whole of the business community, and. it was a pleasure to feel they had still before them many years in which to enjoy good health and 'the leisure they had so justly earned. Air. 'Greig in reply gave an interesting history of the growth of the Wellington branch, and Mr. Mayer, who began his career in the head otiice in Dunedin, gave reminiscences of the early days of the woollen industry. The chairman welcomed Air. 1. JAlnrtiu. who has recently been transferred from Dunedin as accountant. A telegram from the chairman of directors. Air. J. Sutherland Ross, on behalf of the board and letters from branch niauagers and the travelling stuff affiliated with the Wellington branch were rend. Mr. Greig sailed the following day by the Raugituta to join his family iu Ireland.
