WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

District Annual Meetings The annual meeting of the BeikorangiWaikanae Women's Institute was held recently in the school hall, Reikorangi. Airs. G. A. Alonk was unanimously re-elected president. A talk by Airs. Gibson Young on matters relating to the institutes was listened to with interest, and many questions were asked and answered.

The president referred to the death since the previous meeting of two of the institute's earliest members, Airs. L. Brown and Airs. IP. Callahan, and those present stood for a moment in silence. The competitions for the day were “a vase of flowers" and “a jar of gooseberry jam.” ' Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Alesdames Meyer and Stubbings and Miss Stubbings. To I loro. Tn the absence of both president and vice-president, Mrs. Gibson Young, visiting member of the federation executive, presided at the sixth annual meeting of Te IToro Women’s Institute. The annual report was read and confirmed, several members expressing appreciation of the work of the committee and oflieers, with particular reference to that of the president. Mrs. Spiers. The committee officers were al] re-elect-ed with the exception of Mrs. King, who has left the district, and was replaced by Miss Beverley. Mrs. Gibson Young read a circular from the Dominion executive dealing with the uses of institute funds. She also answered questions bearing on that and other institute matters. Bouquets and a box of vegetables were 'presented to her. A social and afternoon tea concluded the afternoon. raraparaumu. The annual meeting of the Paraparaumu Women’s Institute was held recently. Miss Stocker presided and Miss Maddever was the guest of the afternoon. The following oflieers were elected : —

President, Mrs. Delahunty: committee, Mesdames G. C. Maclean, Hardham, T. Harris, Hadfield, Clarkson, Pascoe, Baucke, Blake, and Burgess, Misses Treadwell. Pasmore, Lynch, and Davies. Very satisfactory reports were given of last year’s work. Mrs. Neild, who is leaving the district, was presented with a bouquet. Three new members were nominated. The points prize for the year was won by Mrs. Hardham. The competitions for next month will be for six pikelets and “the best bloom in your garden.” The hostesses were Mrs. Burgess ami Miss Wingate.

Newlands. Mrs. Horridge presided over a good attendance at tlie annual meeting of the Newlands Women’s Institute. After routine business and reports by the secretary, treasurer. Press correspondent, and circle leaders had been read, Mrs. Heathcote, of the South Wellington Federation, gave an address on the ideals of the institute movement. She was accorded a vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray. The retiring president and officers also received flowers in appreciation of their work during the past year. The following officers were elected: Airs. Kettlewell, president; Alesdames Horridge and Knight, vice-presidents; Airs. Watkins, secretary; Airs. Stanley, assistant secretary; Airs. Titshall, treasurer ; Airs. Pritchard, Press correspondent; Aliases Bownell, Pretrie, Cameron, committee. Afternoon tea was served by the retiring committee. Wainui-o-inata.

The annual meeting of the Whinui-o-mata Women’s Institute was held recently, Airs. Heathcote presiding. Airs. Hume, of the South Wellington federation, conducted the meeting, giving a helpful address on the Women’s Institute movement.

The following officers were elected ;—• President. Mrs. Heathcote; secretary, Mrs. L. Wood; treasurer. Mrs. Rattray; committee, Mesdames Callis, Dick, Haddy, McGowan and J. O. Wood and Misses Drummond and Jones.

The points prize for the cooking competition for the 12 months was won by Mrs. L. Wood, with Mrs. Mason second. During the social half-hour Mrs. Heathcote presented a leather shopping bag to Mrs. Richardson as a parting gift. When presenting Mrs. Hume with a bouquet of lilies, Mrs. Heathcote, on behalf of the members, thanked her for the way she had conducted the meeting. Afternoon tea brought a pleasant, meeting to a close The hostesses were Mesdames J. O. Wood and L. 'Wood and Miss Ngaire Wood. Mt. Bruce. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Mt. Bruce W omen’s Institute held recently: President, Mrs. McLachlan ; vice-presidents, Mesdames 0. Wyeth and C. Campbell; secretary, Miss M. Reader; committee, Mrs. H. Daken, Misses J. Allington and O. Campbell. Two new members were i elected.

The monthly competition for the best programme for a monthly meeting brought forth many ideas which Will be welcomed by the new committee. Mists M. Reader’s entry was placed first and Miss 0. Campbell’s second. A demonstration of the making of wood-pulp roses was given by Mis® Molly West.
