FREEZING WORKERS

Payment For Good Friday Work By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, April 1. A repercussion is reported in connection with the recent stay-in strike at Westfield and the other Auckland freezing works as a result of employees who were not called on for duty on Good Friday being paid at ordinary rates for the holiday and not receiving the 3d. an hour bonus which it was agreed in the settlement of the recent dispute should be paid for all time actually worked. The companies have interpreted the clause strictly in accordance with its wording, and at Westfield yesterday the bonus was paid only to those who had actually worked on Good Friday. So far the grievance has not been carried to official quarters. Mr. A. G. Brown, manager of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company, said today that there was no hint of any trouble.
