“The Girl on the Front Page” and “Keep Your Seats, Please” Thrills hud laughter aplenty may be had at the De Luxe Theatre in a doublefeature programme, either picture of which would be considered excellent fare were the other away. lu “Keep 5 our Seats, Please,” not only does George Formby cause roars of laughter through every minute of a long picture hut he conducts the audience through the adventures of the craziest treasure hunt ever filmed. Foolish and simple in the extreme, George nearly loses a fortune of £90,000 which a wealthy aunt had stowed away in one of seven dining-room chairs. Yet all unwittingly he outplays cunning villainy and finds the money after screamingly funny adventures, lie is ably assisted by Florence Desmond, the beautiful and vivacious widow of Campbell Black, the noted aviator whose death occurred not so long ago in tragic circumstances. Every minute of this picture is packed with brilliant comedy, and George also sings some of his captivating humorous sougs. When, in the second picture, “The Girl on the Front Page,” a society girl tries to run the great city newspaper she has inherited, several things move at a fast rate. Behind the vivid story of newspaper life there are unfolded also thrilling crimes. Gloria Stuart as the society newspaper proprietor desiring to take an active interest in the production clashes with the strong-willed editor, por.trayed by Edmund Lowe, and has to submit to defeat. But he saves her from the clutches of several blackmailers, unmasks the villains and marries Gloria. George Wallace, Australia’s prince of comedians, sends the house into roars of laughter with his singing and his stories.
