ELLERSLIE PROSPECTS

Weather Still Unsettled TRACK CONDITIONS ALTER FORM OUTLOOK Dominion Special Service. Auckland, March 28. Owing to rain, and an unfavourable weather report, the committee of the Auckland Racing Club decided early on Saturday morning to postpone the opening of its autumn meeting at Ellerslie until to-morrow, and to hold the second day on Tuesday. The last postponement at Ellerslie on account of wet weather was when the second day of the spring meeting in 1931 was put off from October 15 to October 1(1. The third day of the winter meeting in 1924 was also postponed from June 7 to June 11.

The conditions since the decision to postpone was made on Saturday have been far from pleasant, and the outlook to-day was still unfavourable, the weather remaining wet, with little sign of clearing. However, the track has not been affected to the extent that might be expected, and if the rain clears the going should not be bad, although it will be easy on the surface. This may cause a slight revision of ideas in some of the races, although principally in the Brighton Hurdles, as in the past neither of the ruling favourites, Erination or High Quality, has shone when the going has been soft. Both may go out of favour if the ground is heavy, in which case Valpai and English Night are likely to have increased followings. Horses likely to come in for solid support if the track is further affected by rain than it was this morning are as follows

President’s Handicap: Armacourt, Gay Talkie and Knight of Australia. Great Northern Oaks: Cerne Abbas, Rulette and Laughing Lass. Brighton Hurdles: English Night, Valpai and Sandy Dix.

Easter Handicap: Royal Appellant, Galilee and King Key.
