KARORI CROQUET CLUB PARTY
Au enjoyable party was given a few days ago by members of the Karori Croquet Club in honour of Airs. L. Toms, who won the intermediate champion of champions event and the level singles at the recent AVellington tourney. Earlier in the season Airs. Toms also took part in McKenzie Cup competitions, and with her partner held the trophy for eight weeks. Airs. Steele and Airs. Harper also received congratulations on their having held the association’s ferns for a week. The day was gloriously fine, and a chatty afternoon was spent. Afternoon tea was provided by members of the club, and several competitions were held. AVinners of the driving events were Alesdames Harper, Kearney and Tithe. Y.M.C.A. AUXILIARY The monthly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Boys’ Division AVomen’s Auxiliary was held recently, Airs. Brooker presiding over a good attendance. The results of the “coin afternoon” were reported as very satisfactory, and a jumble sale was arranged for April. During the afternoon members visited the Y.AI. C.A. kitchen and viewed the newly-in-stalled electric range. A new member. Airs. Dean, was welcomed. The resignation of an old and valued member, Airs. Yeo, was received with regret. Airs. Yeo will leave shortly to take up residence in Napier. Air. Greenberg said that Air. Rountliwaite, boys’ work secretary, was shortly to leave AVellington to "take a similar position in AVanganui, and that Mr. Ed. Buckton had been appointed in his place. The hostesses for the afternoon were Alesdames Martin and AlcFarlane. The wise woman builds her wardrobe round a tweed suit, and tweeds this year are lovelier than ever. Outstanding in Agnes Samson’s collection is a very smart suit made of tweed in plum and grey narrow diagonal stripes broken with wide stripes of plain plum. The short coat with its nipped-in waist is worn over a straight skirt. A lovely brown-ilecked tweed is doublebreasted with the new high lapels, brown leather buttons and brown suede belt. A brown and beige mixture tweed shows again the new waisted coat, no belt, and important patch pockets, outlined with a thick brown line to match the lapels and collar. Agnes Sampson.
