DANCING ON ICE
JJNTIL the advent of beautiful Sonja Henie, into the artistic world, no ballet performer has ever been able to attain the ultimate in creative desire. Transfer rhythmical dance steps to the one perfect medium—ice. Full expression of this desire, how- ' ever, will be attained by Sonja, thrice Olympic ice-skaiting queen, in her screen debut in the star-studded musical, “Girl in a Million.” Miss Henie, who appears in the 20th Century-Fox musical extravaganza with such noted players as Adolpe Menjou. Jean Hersholt, Ned Sparks, Don Ameche. Arline Judge and many others, will do five completely different dances on the ice. Leading a beautifully costumed chorus of 40 boys and 40 girls. Sonja will translate to the ice a waltz, the mazurka, a Polish dance, a tango, foxtrot and a rhumba. Miss Henie, ten times figure-skating champion of the world, went to London from her native Oslo, Norway, to study ballet dancing under the famous Russian, Madame Karsavina. She became such an adept dancer that she was acclaimed by critics for her translation of the Dying Swan dance into dance on skates, winning a command performance before the late King George and Queen Mary.
