HE LIVES ON MURDER
JT is hard to believe that “murder” could be the mainstay of a man’s life, but to Pat Heaton, the star of 8.1.P.'s “Sensation,” that is so. Heaton (John Lodge) is one of the best crime reporters on Fleet Street, but he is ruthless and unscrupulous in his determination to let his paper be first with a story. His enthusiasm for a scoop lands a man on the scaffold and brings misery to his wife and child but so long as his paper gets a story Heaton is callous about any suffering he may cause. Three people are suspected of the murder, which occurs in a little Bedfordshire village; Richard Bird, Denis Wyndham and Francis Lister. Lister has the part of a commercial traveller, a local Don Juan ami a constant frequenter of the hotels. Diana Churchill is another artist who has a fine part in the'film, as the barmaid and sweetheart of Lister, and a beautiful newcomer, about whom a great deal will be heard, makes her English debut as Heaton’s society sweetheart. She is Margaret Vyner, a lovely Australian, who has appeared on the stage and | screen in her native land, but is new to English audiences. To add just, that touch of humour to the production, there is Jerry Verno, who gives an excellent performance as Heaton's able-bodied assistant.
