HUTT GOLF CLUB
Question of Increasing Subscription At the annual meeting of the Hutt Golf Club there was an attendance ot over 40. . .. A motion that the committee consider increasing the subscription by ±l/1/- Tl- - and 10/6 for women, in view of rising costs and the necessity for improvements to the clubhouse, was carried by 11 votes to 10. A later suggestion, however, to arrange a postal ballot on the question because of the poor attendance was adopted. Mr. R. Chandler said that many clubs in Australia charged a small green tee in addition to the annual subscription, and he recommended this idea to the meeting. Au increase in the annual subscription would, he considered, discourage younger people from joining the club. The annual report stated that a very interesting trophy in the form of a Maori carved shield had been presented by Mr. Oka Heketa, a one-time member of the club aud enthusiastic participant in in-ter-club matches between Hutt and Masterton, for competition between the two clubs. Certain conditions were imposed in the contests, and the winning team was decided oil the aggregate result of the two matches played on each course. The first majch was played on the Hutt course and resulted in a win for Hutt. The return match at Masterton, however. was won by the local players, who in the aggregate scored the greatest number of wins, aud thus became the first holders of the shield. ’l'he club has now the services of a permanent secretary, Mr. R. Smith. The retiring honorary secretary, Mr. W. .1. Fisher, who held the position for live years, was thanked for his work in the past, and the president, Mr. G. Cook, made him a presentation on behalf of the elu b. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. G. Cook: vice-presidents, Messrs. D. A. Ewen and N. B. Gibbous; captain, Mr. C., A.
