A well-worn elephant’s tooth, about 3in. across and l|iii. deep, was the source of considerable interest when it was exhibited by the curator. Colonel E. R. Sawer, at the Auckland Zoological Society’s field day at the Auckland Zoo. Colonel Sawer explained that Jumuna, tbe female elephant at the zoo, had pulled out the tooth from her mouth that morning. In an average life of 60 or 70 years elephants had three sets of teeth. Each set contained only four large teeth and the elephants removed old ones by tugging at them with tbete itiunks.
