Wellington v. Hastings
'The annual match for the Gauet Shield, between a Wellington junior eleven and a Hastings eleven, was commenced yesterday afternoon at Kelburn Park. The match will be concluded ou .Monday. Weiliugtou in their first innings made 245, aud at slumps Hastings had lost two for 40. The teams are as follows: — Wellington.—P. Hough, K. Young, W. Bain, M. Dentiee, .1. Bentley, A. Allan, ,J. Stephenson. Wellington won the toss. Rough aud Young commenced the innings ou a slow wicket, and for the first hour only 30 runs were scored. Rough was then run out through a misunderstanding. Bain joined Young, and the rate of scoring increased. Bain was caught after making 35. Young batted confidently for 62. which included nine 4's. 'Flic fielding of the visiting team was good, aud some excellent faves were made. S. G. Rouse was the most successful bowler. He bowled a good length, and frequently had the Wellington batsmen troubled. A. Mahoney and W. Tacon opened Hastings innings, and both men batted very carefully. Tacon was bowled by McKeowen for 2.
