Matters Discussed A well-attended meeting of the Women’s Service Guild was presided over by Mrs. T. B. Strong yesterday afternoon. The new paper, “Woman To-day,” was discussed, members promising its support. Satisfaction was expressed at a letter agreeing to accept a statement later from the guild, which was received from the committee of inquiry into the maternity service of New Zealand. The Minister of Justice sent a letter acknowledging receipt of the following resolution: “That in future prosecutions on charges of procuring abortion, all the principals concerned shall stand their trial and share in the responsibility of the crime.” After further business, the guild adjourned to a public meeting on “State housing.” Members of a special subcommittee, in giving their report, laid stress on the need of sun-rooms, and special recreation . space, both for children and adults. The sub-com-mittee was instructed to summarise the salient points brought forward by the meeting and forward them to the right quarter. COCKTAILS AT FIVE The private lounge of the Grand Hotel, with ite deep cream walls and modernistic furnishings, was gay with artistically arranged bowls of pink and cerise gladioli, mauve asters, and pale pink sweet peas yesterday, when Mr. and Mrs. Basil Hartman gave ,a cheery five-o’clock party in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Ewen Cameron, who will leave Wellington by the Awatea next Tuesday for Sydney, where they will take up their residence. Cocktails and tempting savouries of every description were served by the hotel’s efficient staff while all present took the opportunity of wishing the guests of honour “bon voyage.” Mrs. Hartni.an was wearing a striking black cocktail ensemble cut on military lines, her hat, with its quaint tassel, also being in military style. Mrs. Cameron was in a smart cocktail suit of black, relieved with a white frill, and a small hat with fe,ather.
