Hastings Theatre Manager Wins Coveted Award

The decision of the judges in a competition Held a few weeks ago in connection with tlie celebration of Adolph Zukor’s twenty-fifth year in the motionpicture industry has resulted in a personal triumph for Mr. Tong, Hastings, manager of Hawke’s Bay Amusements. The competition, which was between theatre managers through Australia and New Zealand, was for a bronze plaque bearing the head of Mr. Zukor embossed on it and au inscription of tlie circumstances of the .award. Tlie plaque goes to Mr. Tong personally as tlie manager originating the best publicity for Bara mount pictures, tlie film showing in Hastings at the time being “Tlie General Died at Dawn.” 'l’lie result of tlie contest is eagerly looked for by every theatre manager in Australia and New Zealand, and details will be sent to I hem through their trade papers. Only two competitions of this nature have been held, one being on Harold Lloyd's picture “Movie Crazy” and the other on Zukor’s jubilee, and Mr. Tong has won both of them, tlie first being awarded to him while in charge of Williamson’s theatre at Masterton, where he scored 100. the maximum number of points available. Mr. Tong said that great assistance was given him in tlie prosecution of winning tlie campaign by business firms in Hastings, and lie expressed his sincere thanks to them for their co-opera-tion.
