MAYOR DISAPPOINTED
“Lack of Civic Interest” “The result of the poll was very disappointing indeed. I am afraid the people do not realise the seriousness of the defeat of loan proposals as one cannot expect the Loans Board to consider proposals of a similar nature for a considerable time,” the mayor of Petone, Mr. A. Scholefield, told “The Dominion” last night after the final figures were made known. “The proposals placed before the electors had received the serious consideration of the council, its officers, and the Loans Board. As the people have given their decision, however, we have no alternative but to accept the result. I repeat, the lack of civic interest is very disappointing.”
