Medical Superintendent of Greytown Hospital SALARY FOR SUCCESSOR Dominion Special Service. Masterton. March 17. The resignation of Dr. H. B. Berney, medical superintendent of the Greytown Hospital, was received with regret at tiie meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board to-day, and it was decided to place On record the board’s appreciation of his services. “I regret be is going,” said Mr. J. F. Thompson, when the letter of resignation was read. 'T have seen his work for a number of years and I can say that he has been a very conscientious medical superintendent. He is a young man of ability and nd doubt wants to capitalise his surgical experience.” The chairman. Mr. H. H. Mawley, said that this was the first he had heard of the resignation. Although he was not fully acquainted with the Greytown Hospital, he had heard that Dr. Berney was a good man who was spoken of very highly. “We can just receive the resignation with regret,” the chairman said. “We will go a long way before we can get any man who will work in so well with other medical practitioners.” said Dr. G. S. Sharp. When the question of salary for Dr. Bcrney’s successor was raised, the chairman remarked that the secretary had drawn up a list of salaries paid by other hospital boards, and it. appeared that in comparison those paid by the Wairarapa board were very low. “More than likely.” he said, “we will have to review the salaries of all our medical people. It looks as though we will have to raise the salary at Greytown.” It was decided to advertise the position at a salary of £350 a year, with the right of private practice.
