Otago Championship Events By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, March 17. The Otago senior swimming championships. to be held in club hours during the next week, were began this evening, when three events were decided. The 110 yards Empire Games ranking trials were held in conjunction with all races. Results:— 100yds. Men’s Freestyle.—D. H. Symes and E. Toase, dead heat. 1; J. W. Clulee, 3. Time, 58 3-5. Times in the 110yds. trial were: Symes (65 1-5), Toase (6S 4-5), Clulee (69 3-5). 100yds. Women's Freestyle.—Miss I. Purdue, 1; Miss A. Brown, 2. Time. 67 2-s—an Otago record. 110yds. Trial. —Miss Purdie, 1.14 3-5. 100yds. Men's Backstroke. —I’. E. Mathieson, 1; A. Tanks. 2; K. Leekic. 3. Time, 67. In the 110 yards trial Mathiesnn's time was one second slower than the New Zealand 100 metres record.
