OBJECTION TO OWN VALUATION

Unusual Auckland Case Dominion Special Service. Auckland, March 17. An objection by the city valuer, Mr. Notley, to one of his own valuations was one of the unusual cases before the City Assessment Court. This was in respect of a valuation of the Auckland Electric Power Board’s mains and street lighting service in the city area. The board’s balance-sheet had not been available when the valuation roll closed, and the city valuer fixed rhe rateable value of these services at £22,000. Information from the board came forward later and Mr. Notley raised the valuation to £24,195, at the .same time lodging an objection to the previous figure. When this objection was called a't the court there was no appearance on behalf of the board and the objection was sustained. On the rateable value approved by the court the board’s mains and lighting services are valued at £483,900. On the same roll the mains and services of the Auckland Gas Company are valued at £212.840, with a rateable value of £lO,O-12, while the Auckland Transport Board’s tracks and overhead services are valued at £313.200 with a rateable value of £15,660. There was no objection in respect of either of these assessments.
