CONTEMPT VERDICT
Francis E. Townsend Convicted

Dr. Francis E. Townsend, founder of the 200 dollars-a-month old-age pension plan, who "walked out” on a committee of inquiry of the House of Representatives in May and advised several of his followers not to give evidence or obey subpoenas, was convicted of- contempt of the House by a Federal jury. Sentence was deferred. The Statute imposes a maximum penalty of 1000 dollars in fine and a year in the common jail.
