FIELD OF WATERLOO
Appeal For Preservation
London, February 24.
The Brussels correspondent of “The Times” states that the question of the preservation of the battlefield of Waterloo is causing concern in British and Belgian circles. Belgium legislated in 1914 to prevent encroachment on the battlefield, but the provincial authorities now propose road works which would alter the appearance of the area adjacent to the mound on which the famous Lion of Waterloo stands. The British Ambassador has sent a letter to the Minister urging action “to protect one of the most interesting points on the battlefield.”
