Ministerial.

The Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, will leave Wellington this afternoon for Blenheim and Kaikoura. He will return to Wellington on Sunday.

Sir Cecil Leys arrived at Wellington yesterday from the south and left by the Limited on his return to Auckland.

Mr. G. S. Kent, Wellington, left foi the north yesterday afternoon. Mr. B. J. Jacobs, Dunedin, is visiting Wellington. Mr. R. J. Paul, Dunedin, is in Wellington for the annual conference of the United Friendly Societies. Mr. James Fletcher, of the Fletcher Construction Company, left Wellington for the north yesterday. Mr. E. J. Fawcett, Wellington, returned yesterday from a business trip in the South Island. Mr. I-I. D. Acland, Christchurch, left Wellington for the South Island by the steamer express last night. Mr. J. B. Reid, Invercargill, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday.

Mr. H. F. Nleoll, Christchurch, was a passenger for the south by the steamer express last night. Mr. C. S. M. Hopkirk. returned to Wellington yesterday after a short visit to the South Island. Mr. D. J. Wesney, Invercargill, who has been on a business visit to Wellington, left last night for the south.

Mr. L. J. Schmitt, general manager of the Tourist Department, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. D. R. Lysaght, director of Lysaghts, Limited. England, steel manufacturers, left Auckland by the Aorangi for Vancouver, en route for England Captain H. and Mrs. Monro, Christchurch. who have been on a short visit to Wellington, returned south last night. Mr. F. R. Callaghan, officer in charge of the Plant Research Bureau, Wellington, is visiting Christchurch. He expects to return at the week-end. Captain M. E. Johnson, M.C.. N.Z.S.C., adjutant Otago Mounted Rifles, has left Dunedin for Nelson, where he has been transferred as staff officer in charge of the regimental district.

Mr. R. B. Ashe, manager for New Zealand for the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society, Limited, has returned to Wellington after attending a managers’ conference at Melbourne.

Mr. C. C. Warner, formerly superintendent of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, left by air yesterday for Auckland, where he will live in retirement. Mr. W. A. Flavell, Dunedin, general manager of the Westport Coal Company, Ltd., is a visitor to Wellington. He will leave for the south again this evening. Mr. A. 0. Wilkinson, a member of the firm of Wilkinson and Wilkinson, public accountants, Christchurch, who has been on a visit to Wellington, returned south last night. Mr. J. Burns, chairman of the reserves committee of the Wellington City Council, who has been on a tour of the North Island, has returned to Wellington, greatly improved in health. The Rev. S. B. R. Corbin, vicar of Ormondvllle, Hawke’s Bay, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. A. G. Dawson, vicar of St. George’s Church, Thames, who will shortly leave for England. Dr. M. Robertson and Dr. A. B. O’Brien, Christchurch, who have been attending the biennial conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, returned south last night. f Dr. P. Clennell Fenwick, head of the radium department of the Christchurch Hospital, is to attend the eighth Australian cancer conference to be held at Canberra from April 13 to 16. He is to read a paper on cancer of the lip. Mr. Glion Curtis, jun., of Webster Groves, Missouri, who has been appointed vice-consul for the United States of America at Wellington, is to arrive at Auckland by the Monterey to-day, accompanied by Mrs. Curtis. Mr. William Wallace, president of the Hospital Boards' Association of New Zealand, will arrive at Wellington this morning to attend a meeting of the Nurses and Midwives’ Registration Board.

Mr. A. W. Hyndman, Invercargill, has joined the staff of the Marconi Company. and is leaving London for South America as a radio operator on the Alameda Star. The ship calls at Portugal, Brazil, Uruguay and the Argentine.

Mr. Victor S. Lloyd has resigned from the directorship of The Thespians, Wellington. Mr. Lloyd founded the society three years ago and has been at its bead since, but for business reasons has been obliged tou-e--linqulsh the active part he held. Dr. T, Maling has resigned from the position of assistant medical superintendent at the Christchurch Hospital, and Dr. C. G. Riley has been appointed his successor. Dr. Maling will leave the board's service at the end of March and Dr. Riley will take over the 'duties on April 1. Mr. E. Llpsett, of Vancouver, was an arrival by the Aorangl from Sydney at Auckland and was later a guest at the Auckland Rotary Club's luncheon. Mr. Llpsett will attend the biennial Pan-Pneifle Rotary conference at Wellington next week as u delegate from the Vancouver Rotary Club. Mr. Quin N. Wilson, formerly of the slaff of A. S. Paterson and Company. Wellington, has been appointed manager of T. H. Green and Company. Christchurch, in place of Mr. W. Bottrell, who has had to retire from active management through ill health. Mr. Bottrell will continue on the board of directors' of the company. The Hon H. G. Hawkins, M.L.C. (South Australia), chairman of directors of the South Australian Farmers’ Union and a director of the Producers and Citizens' Co-operative Assurance Company, Ltd., arrived at Wellington from the South Island yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Hawkins, and will leave to-day on a lour of the North Island.

Mr. W. 11. Love., who has been on the staff of the State Forest Service at Palmerston North for the past two years, lias been appointed to the aerodromes branch of the Publie Works Department at Wellington, and in to take up his new duties on Ma reb 1. Mr Love's successor is Mr. C. S. Panting, of the Lands and Survey Department. Auckland.

Milburn, who h,us been postmaster at Government Buildings since 1926, and who has been appointed, postmaster at Wellington East, was farewelled this week and presented with a token of esteem from the staffs of the State departments in the build ing Tin* presentation was made by Mr .1.
