OTTAWA AGREEMENT

Australia to Move For

Revision

Melbourne, February 15.

The Prime .Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, states that action will be taken this year by the Commonwealth Government to secure revision of the Ottawa agreement. Foreshadowing another Imperial Economic Conference similar to that held at Ottawa in 1932, Mr. Lyons said that no revision of the Ottawa agreement would be attempted at the Imperial Conference in London in May. Tlie only question which would be raised at’ that conference or in later London conversations would be a method of obtaining revision of the agreement at a later stage.

Mr. Lyons indicated that the Federal Ministry acceded to the principle of economic eo-operation throughout the Empire which had been established at Ottawa. If it was decided to hold another conference it was possible that the Commonwealth would propose that it be held in Australia, the' only disadvantage being Australia’s distance from some parts of the Empire.
