MAYFAIR CABARET

Saturday Night’s Dance

Judging by the enthusiastic response to au effort made by the new manager of the Mayfair Cabaret to revive Saturday cabaret evenings in Wellington, there seems to be every indication that during this coming season cabaret dancing in the city will be more popular than lias been found formerly. Various attractions were offered to the cheery crowd at the Mayfair on Saturday night, as well as the pleasant atmosphere provided by gay decorations, good music, and a smooth floor. There were clusters of balloons placed along the walls to match the bright red, blue, green, and yellow of the little tables and chairs, and floating bowls filled with roses centred all the tables in the lounge, which was occupied by several largo parties. The orchestra, playing from the dais between the two sides of the ballroom, was tireless in its efforts to provide every type of popular dance music, and several novelty dances were entered into with great zest. Miss Thelma Wakeford, daintily dressed in powder blue and silver, gave much pleasure with her tap-dancing. The bridge-room, which has been enlarged and redecorated in soft shades of blue and green, was arranged for a light supper, which was served at tables for four, and waiters were in attendance in the ballroom also for those who preferred to have supper there. Lord and Lady Waleran were noticed among the dancers, Major and Mrs. Arthur Purvis, and Mr. and Mrs. Gibson Stott being in the same party. At another table were Mr. and Mrs. James Payne and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Glennie with a party, and all round the rooms were other groups of people who obviously welcomed this splendid opportunity of spending the evening in dancing in such delightful surroundings. j
