SERIOUS CHARGES
f Pleading guilty to a charge of attempting to commit incest, at Carterton, on December 15, 1934, Leo Vernon Pali], butcher. Masterton, was sentenced to 12 nonths’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday. Pahl, who was represented by Mr. S. V. Gooding, Masterton, pleaded not guilty to a charge of incest and also to a charge of attempted incest, the alleged offences occurring on April 13, 1935. Without retiring, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on both counts.
