Midnight Carpet
I lIVJII I g I j G V-CH I found it unexpectedly, This lovely earpet square. ’Twas patterned most intricately And fringed with maidenhair. The centrepiece of glowing light From friendly windows thrown Was misted by the silken night, And then with dewdrops sewn. A weeping willow east its shade Athwart the silver woof. A chimney’s shadow quaintly made An upturned temple roof. It was so joyously complete, My moon-spun carpet square; Almost I saw the fairy feet That surely twinkled there. —A. M. Campbell.
