A HOLIDAY FOR KIWI !
Dear Boys and Girls, —- William Weatherman came a-visiting the other day. He looked very cheerful and not a bit guilty because of all the rain.
“Kizvi,” he said, with a gleam in his eyes, “1 really have fixed those sky-tanks up at last, and unless the sky-plumber misbehaves again we zvill have lots of fine weather for your holidays.” “'William," I cried, clapping my hands, “you are a darling —don’t deny it—but how did you know I zvas qoinq to have a holiday?” William blushed (or perhaps it was sunburn), and bowed. “Nothing escapes me,” he said, “and I know you are as excited over your holidays as the children were over theirs. Of course, they have still another month to get sunburned in.” => Here his guilty conscience must have pricked, for he blushed painfully again. “William,” 1 asked, solmenly, “do you really think you zvill be able to keep the weather fine in the far north as well as in Wellington? For that’s where I’m off to.” My anxious expression must have alarmed him, for he jumped up zuith, “Of course, I can't promise, and I’m afraid the sunny north hasn’t seen any sun for a good zvhilc, too — but you- may be sure I zvill try my best for you.” “William,” I cried, as he disappeared, “if you make it rain . for my holiday I zvill zvrite a long story containing all your misdeeds for the page zvhen I come back.” I thought he had disappeared zvithout hearing, but suddenly his head popped over the window-ledge. “Oh, all right, Kiwi,” he said, zvith a grin. And so, members all, I am leaving you all for three zveeks. FROM NEXT SATURDAY “COUSIN LINDY" will be in charge, and zvill answer all your letters in Tuesday’s mailbag. ... ’ . Nozv this is specially ’portant: Cousin Lindy is a very busy person and zvill not have time to run special star-point competitions each week for you. So, until I return, there zvill be no competitions and no star points at all. And zvhen I do return zve zvill continue them as usual. Your holidays will possibly ' , end, then at the same time as I ■mine. May you- all have the Kj sunniest and happiest February / I ever!
