PLUNKET MEETING

'Che monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held at 18 Kent Terrace, and was presided over by the president, Mrs. Jowett. The meeting opened by the members standing in silence as a tribute to the memory of the late Miss Helen Beckett. Feeling reference was made to the great loss the branch had sustained in the loss of such an unselfish and highly-trained nurse and a motion of sympathy with her mother and relatives was passed. Appreciation of the action of the Island Bay Progressive Association in initiating a movement to found such a fitting memorial to her as the endowment of a mother’s bed at the Karifane Hospital was also expressed. The sum required will be £lOO. The Dominion president, Lady Sidey, was present at Ute meeting, and was extended a warm welcome, as was also Lady Hoskiug, patroness of the branch, aud Miss Vida McLean, who is on her way to Adelaide and later to Japan, where she is to help found Sir Truby King’s work. The committee again expressed appreciation of the voluntary motordrivers who regularly transport members of the Plunket nursing staff to long-distance cases, special mention being made of Miss Myers, who will shortly leave for England, and who, for more than seven years, has given most faithful service to the nurses and mothers by driving the nurse every Monday morning. The secretary will gratefully receive further offers of help from motorists who would regularly undertake to give one morning a week, one morning a fortnight, or one morning a month. One new driver was heard to remark that had she known the long distances to be covered and the hills to be climbed, she would have offered her services long ago.
