ORIGINAL PICTURES
Wellington Camera Club Competition Shadows of aeroplanes and bridges, the mechanism of watches, baby birds with enormous open mouths, ships’ tunnels from below, and other strange Sights formed the collection brought forward for the Wellington Camera Club’s monthly competition, which was for the most original picture. Giving some hints to members on the best way to set about obtaining unusual pictures, Mr. J. W. Chapman-Taylor said the originality must be in the eye and the mind of the camera-user, and not so much in the subject or in nature. The creative ability of the .photographer and his knowledge of composition and tone values would be greatly helped and enlarged if he endeavoured always to make his pictures individual, though, of course, he did not advocate “stunt” photography. The papular voting placed Mr. Chap-man-Taylor’s picture, “The Way of Ail Flesh,” as champion, the runners-up being the entries of Messrs. H. A. McDonald and R. J. Smith. In the B grade, Mr. C. G. Smith carried off the prize with his photograph of the greatly magnified works of a watch—the wheels in the result looking more suitable for Big Ben. _____
