BOXING INCIDENT

Pluto Not To Be Penalised Further “UNSEEMLY RING CONDUCT”

Consideration was given by the New Zealand Boxing Council in Wellington last night to the incident which brought the recent boxing match at Palmerston North between the Australian welterweight, Bill Pluto, and the Manawatu professional, McMahon, to an early close, when Pluto was disqualified for striking the referee. - it was decided not to further penalise Pluto, but to severely warn him that any repetition of, such unseemly conduct in the ring will bring about the immediate revoking of his boxing licence. The council had before it reports from the Manawatu Boxing Association, which conducted the match, the referee, Mr. Evans, and from Pluto. It was reported that arrangements have been completed for a return contest between Pluto and McMahon at Palmerston North next Tuesday, for which match an outside referee will be engaged.

SARRON TO VISIT NEW

ZEALAND

Matches to be Arranged

The clever American boxer, Pete Sarron, world lightweight title-holder, will visit New Zealand next year, and will engage in matches while he is in the country. He will probably arrive in March. The secretary of the New Zealand Boxing Association, Mr. G. P. Aldridge, has received a letter from Sarron, intimating his intention of paying a return visit to this Dominion. He left America for South Africa on November 20, and after two matches there he intends visiting Australia before coming on to New Zealand. After his New Zealand tour he proposes to visit England and Scotland in search of further matches.

New Zealand boxing enthusiasts have never forgotten those palmy days. of boxing when Sarron’s previous visit stirred the game to new life by a series of memorable contests with the New Zealander, Tommy Donovan. Sarron has made no announcement as to the number of matches he wishes when he arrives next year. All arrangements for contests have been left to Mr. Aldridge.
