HARBOURMASTER AT SYDNEY

Captain J. R. Stringer Retires' After having served 17 years with the Maritime Services Board of New South Wales. Captain J. R. Stringer, tho harbourmaster has retired. He joined the Sydney Harbour Trust in 1919, as first assistant harbourmaster. He first went to sea in 18S9 bn the full-rigged four-masted ship Falls of Foyers, and he served under sail until he obtained his second mate’s ticket. In 1899 he joined the service of the Union Stenm Ship Co., of New Zealand. Ltd., and remained with that company for 20 years He commander a number of the company’s ships, including the troopship Tofim for three years during the war. Captain C. Hill, who has succeeded Captain Stringer as harbourmaster, has been in charge of the pilot service for several years.
