NO MORE INDIGESTION

Correct Diet and Simple Exercises Will Be of Great Help

Series No. 5: By THE DIETITIAN.

JgEALTY is affected as much by the digestive system as the circulatory system, ami. whatever its effect, indigestion can be relieved and very often cured by following a correct diet and doing the right exercises. It is important to tone up the stomach, otherwise the food which passes from it into the intestine will be in an undigested state, and the blood stream will soon be contaminated. All meals must be taken free from worry. Go to the table with a contented and an easy mind, for nothing interferes more with the digestive organs than worrying over other affairs while eating. Food must be thoroughly masticated. Imperfect mastication, whether it be caused by bad teeth, hurried meals or improper food, will soon cause the nervous system to rise in revolt, and nervous dyspepsia is generally associated with a pessimistic mind.

Shopkeepers, as a class, suffer greatly from indigestion, because they are constantly jumping up and down from their meals to attend to customers. This causes pockets of gas to form in their stomachs between the masses of half-digested food. A very uncomfortable feeling will result.

Certain foodstuffs, like acid fruits and meat, do not agree or mix with one another. Young people can generally mix their foods without any ill-effect, but in latei- life this is not the case. This will mean a certain ; amount of exercise. This is one of the I best cures for indigestion, and directly ! after a meal it is essential. Lying i down after a meal will soon increase > the waistline, whereas a certain } amount of movement will restore A vitality for the rest of the day. If the following exercise is carried V out every morning it will stimulate d the nerves of the stomach and aid di- c< gestion. Clasp the hands behind the n bead, and inhale deeply through the o nostrils. When the lungs are full of ir air, hold the breath for a few moments. Now pucker the lips, as if you were J* whistling, and blow the air vigorously from the diaphragm. This will allow P' the lungs to be cleared and refreshed, p: Repeat Hie exercise six times. I le
