MAPLE FURNISHING CO.

Four-story Block to be Built An expanding business always makes itself known by the necessity for more space. The success of the Maple Furnishing Company (AVellington), Ltd., has been such that further floor space is absolutely necessary, and extensive plans have been prepared by Messi’S. Dawson and King to provide this additional room. At present the firm’s commodious premises in Manners Street consist of one vast showroom, on two levels. That is to say, the back half of the premises is quite four feet higher than the front half, and half-a-dozen steps lead from one part to the other. That is to be changed. The back half of the building is to be scrapped altogether, and in its place will be built a four-storied, steel frame and concrete building, constructed in accordance with modern practice. The ground floor of the new building, which will be 40 feet by 50 feet in dimensions, will be On a level with the floor of the front section of the present shop, so that the new ground floor showroom will present an uninterrupted depth of over 100 feet, while the four floors in all will give a total of about 8000 square feet.

The new building will be served by a modern electric elevator, which will be placed on the western side of the shop, and, beside it, a commodious stairway will also serve the floors above. When complete, the ground floor will be one great showroom, the first floor will be an extension of the showroom and offices: the second floor will be reserved for carpets and other floor coverings, and the top floor will be mainly used for bulk storage. The two top floors will have the advantage of a splendid natural northern light, as their windows will overlook the two-storied section in front. Tenders for (he construction of the building will be called within the next few days.
