A by-law fixing slaughtering charges was adopted yesterday afternoon at a meeting of the Wellington City Council. It provides that where slaughtering is done by a contractor half the fees shall be paid to the abattoir and the other half to the contractor. The manager may allow monthly accounts to approved customers. The by-law fixes the charges to be made, but also provides that where there is a surplus of revenue in the financial year after meeting the costs of running the abattoir and interest this amount shall be credited to those paying charges in proportion to the amount of charges and fees paid.
