GLOBE TROTTER FINED
Parked Over Fire-plug
Having toured in odd corners of the world with his sister in their motorcar, William Schilling Baker, an American globe trotter, arrived in New Zealand a short time ago. Yesterday, for parking over a fire-plug, he was fined 10/- and costs by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington. . • The magistrate said defendant’s solicitor had written to the court explaining that Baker was a recent arrival from America and was not conversant with the Wellington traffic by-laws. He asked that no conviction be entered. "I should have thought that our regulations would be so small compared with those he has been used to that he would have had no difficulty in knowing what a fire-plug was,” commented the magistrate.
