Lower Grade Championships GAME IN COOK ISLANDS A tribute to the memory of Mr. AV. 0. Alexander, who died at Paeroa some three weeks ago, was paid by the chairman of the management committee of the AVellington Rugby Union, Mr. J. Prendeville, at a meeting of the committee last night. Mr. Prendeville said that the late Mr. Alexander had given gooa service to the Rugby game in AVellington. He had been a member of the AVellington College Old Boys’ Club, and represented AVellington from 1905 until 1910. A motion of condolence with the hitives was passed. I have given several lectures from the book to the referees and players of the island, and am at present engaged in coaching the local representative team to go to Rarotonga next month to play a series of matches there, and also have the school boys hard at it, as they will accompany the party to play the Rarotonga schools, if there is sufficient in the union’s coffers. “I expect Now Zealand players were very pleased at the success of New Zealand teams against the Australians. The Maoris here took a keen interest in the results.” Pirates’ Tournament. The lion, secretary of the Pirates’ club (AVellington) wrote stating that a quadrangular tournament of Pirates clubs would be held at Napier at Easter. This tournament was to be an annual event, and at a conference held at Palmerston North recently it was decided that AVellington should be the venue for the tournament in 1940. It was desired that the AVellington union should grant the use of Athletic Park for the tournament. It w’as decided to reply that the AVellington union was willing to assist, but could not at this early date make any commitments for the 1940 season owing to.the centenary celebrations that year, Pi’iiiiai’j- Schools’ Football. The AVellington and Hutt Valley Primary Schools’ Rugby Unions .wrote asking permission for a deputation to wait upon the management committee at its next meeting with the object of seeking a renewal of the New Zealand union’s grant for primary schools' Rugby, which had lapsed. It was decided to reply that the deputation would be received at the management committee’s first meeting in February next.
