MINISTER’S REPLY
Mr. S. G. Holland’s Statement By Telegraph—Press Association. ' Christchurch, November 17. "For Mr. Holland to try and convince the public that I would lie about any man is more than he can do. The people know that I attack with truth. I may be hard and my words may sting and hurt, but I do not indulge in lying.” This statement was made to-day by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, in reply to that made by Mr. S. G. Holland, M.P., yesterday. After reiterating his statement that several members of the Opposition had expressed regret at Mr. Holland’s raising in the House the question of the appointment of Mr. Semple's son as a traffic inspector. Air. Semple said he would never accuse Mr. Forbes or Mr. Coates of descending to the level of making an attack in that way, nor would he accuse Mr. Hamilton, the present Leader of the National ■ Party. “Their conception of elean fighting and political morality is above that,” said Mr. Semple. “I expect that kind of stuff from political infants and individuals with unbalanced minds."
