WEDDING AT KHYBER

• Molesworth—Miles The Peshawar correspondent of the “Delhi Statesman” writes of an event of exceptional interest which took place on Thursday, October 22, at Landi Kotal. It was the wedding of BrigadierGeneral A, L. M. Molesworth, district commander, Landi Kota! Brigade, and Miss Hilda Miles, daughter of Mr. A. 11. Miles. 0.8. E., aud Mrs. .Miles, Wellington, New Zealand. This was only the second time in history that an event of its kind had taken place in the Khyber. For the benefit of visitors the normal Khyber toll at Jamrti'd was suspended and the route from Jamrud to Landi Kotal was lined by all the Khyber Khassadars. A. constant stream of traffic moved between Peshawar and the scene of the wedding between 10 a.m. and noon. I The ceremony took place in the brigade gymnasium, decorated for the occasion with chrysanthemums and other flowers, tlie officiating clergy being the Rev. M. A. Nicol, M.A.. M. 0., chaplain of St. John’s Church. Peshawar, assisted by the Rev. Donald MacDonald. M.A., 8.D., chaplain to the Ist Battalion Cameronians, stationed in the Khyber. Tlie bands of this regiment provided the music for the service and afterward at the reception. During the signing of the register the hymn, “O, God of Bethel,” was sung, and when the bride and bridegroom reappeared they left the building to the strains of Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” and passed through a guard of honour of 16 swords to the waiting car, in which they were drawn by men of the Cameronians to the lawn of the brigade headquarters’ mess, where tlie reception took place. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. C. C. Miles, looked most attractive in a frock of pale pink spider-web lace with a spray of sweet peas at the waist. She wore a picture hat of brown tulle and carried a bouquet of carnations. .She was .attended by her sister-in-law, Mrs. C. C. Miles, in a golden crepe frock with brown and gold trimmings and a brown straw hat with openwork edge, and by Miss Lindsay Molesworth, the bridegroom's daughter, who looked very charming in a gown of blue with a fine lace jabot and a white hat. They carried bouquets of yellow chysanthcmums.

At the reception, having received the congratulations of their guests, the bride cut the wedding-cake with her husband’s sword. The assembled guests then joined in the toast to the newlymarried couple proposed by General Muspratt. 'The distinguished visitors present included Lieutenant-General S. F. Muspratt, Brigadier-General R. N. O’Connor and Mrs. O’Connor, Group Captain N. IT. Bottomiey and Mrs. Bottomley, Major C. S. Searle, Political Agent, Khyber, and Mrs. Searle. The popularity of the bridegroom's command at Landi Kotal was demonstrated by the presence of the Maliks of the Khyber area presenting garlands. Among the guests also were officers of tlie various Indian regiments stationed in Khyber. At the end of the reception all present lined the route from the lawn to the waiting car and. well armed with confetti, sped the married couple on their way to Kashmir, where the honeymoon is being spent.
