HOMING PIGEONS

Wellington. Club’s Races The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society flew a flock race from Oamaru, 325 miles airline. Eighty-one pigeons, representing 16 lofts, were liberated in fine weather bv Mr. H. Day. A good race resulted as follows:—B. Clements’s Red Plume, 1271 yards per minute, 1; F. Couper and Son s Ginger, 1267, 2; Thomas and Bruces Manawatu, 1265, 3; Smith and Boxalls Blue Star, 1263, 4; Webster and Sons Gay Boy, 1245, 5; S. Garders Bright Star, 1234, 6. A teams’ race was flown from Helen«viUe, 335 miles airline. In this race each member was represented by two pigeons. Both birds had to be timed in, and average velocities decided the positions. Twenty-eight pigeons, representing 14 members, were liberated by the stationmaster, who advised fine weather conditions. A good performance was recorder bv the winning teams. Results were as follows:—N. Boyd and Son’s team, 1206.yards per minute, 1; F. Couper and Son s team 1202.6, 2; C. Webster and Sons team, 1201.5, 3; Thomas and Bruces team, 1198, 4; A. Clements s team. 1186.5, 5 • A. Croskery and Son’s team, 1186, 6. ’An interval race, flown from Ashburton, was marred by bad weather conditions. Fourteen pigeons were liberated by Mr. Graham at 10 minutes’ interval A very hard race resulted as follows:—0 Mobster and Son T s bird, 17hr. 56mm., 1; Perkins and O’Dea’s bird, 20.22, 2; N. Boyd and Son’s bird, 23.10 3: F. Fhpp and Son’s bird. 23.21, 4; B Clementes bird. 23.39, 5; Dickey Bros, bird, 26.17, 6.

Petone Club The Petone Homing Pigeon Club flew three races recently. The first was a relay race from Hunterville, Waiouru and Taumarunui, each member entering one bird from each point, all three to oe clocked and average velocity to decide winner. The second race was a Frankton interval, distance 239 J miles, each biro being liberated at 15 minutes’ interval, so that each bird would fly the distance on its own.
