ACCIDENT SEQUEL
Plaintiff Awarded Damages Damages totalling £6lB/3/6 were awarded by a jury in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday, to Mrs. Alice Gilbert, Upper Hutt, who claimed £llB/3/6 special damages and £7OO general damages from William Hadfield Smith, works manager, Miramar, in a case arising from a motor accident. Mr. Justice Heed was on the bench. Plaintiff was represented by Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, and defendant by Mr. E. Parry, . The action arose out of an accident on June 7, 1936, when plaintiff was riding a bicycle along Main Road, Lower Hutt, and was struck from behind by a motorcar driven by defendant in the same direction. . Plaintiff, in her statement of claim, alleged that the accident was due to negligent and unskilful driving by defendant. As a result of the accident plaintiff received injury to her right thigh, bruises and shock, necessitating hospital, medical and massage treatment. The damages awarded by the jury, for which judgment was entered, were £llB 3/6 by way of special damages, and fo(IO general damages.
