SHOW ASSOCIATION

Claims of Grounds as Site For Exhibition DATE OF 1937 FIXTURE STILL UNDECIDED The annual meeting of the W eilington Show Association was held last night, in the Winter Show Building. Mr. R. H. Nimuw presided in the absence of Mr. C. J. B. Norwood. The annual report aud balance-sheet was adopted, the chairman referring to the proposals relating to debentures formulated by a special committee on September 16. The committee had circularised the debenture-holders, and the replies indicated that holders representing 35,900 shares were in favour of the proposals, and holders representing 1220 against. The chairman stated that the date of the 1937 show was still undecided. The executive had desired to hold the show at dates coinciding with the coronation, viz., May 1-12, 1937. However, on a visit to the Palmerston North show he had discovered that the sideshows and exhibitors would not come to Wellington then, because the Waikato show was arranged for the same date. The Wellington dates would, therefore, have to be changed. Mr. W. S. Wilson reported that a special committee had waited on the Centenary Exhibition committee and pushed the question of using the show buildings and grounds for the exhibition. Although they were told the Rongotai site had been decided ou they were also told unofficially that the buildings might be used for various purposes in connection with the exhibition. The speaker suggested the committee remain in being to keep the claims of the association to the front. Mr. D. J. McGowan said he knew as a provisional director of the exhibition company that it would be necessary for the committee to push its claims without delay. He himself was in favour of the show association’s site, although the expert engineers had reported against it. It was decided to recommend to the executive that the work of preparing the main entrance be proceeded with. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Viscount Galway; president, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood (re-elected) ; acting-chairman of executive, Mr. D. J. McGowan; honorary treasurer, Mr, Geo. W. Slade; honorary solicitor, Mr. J. F. B. Stevenson; honorary veterinary surgeon, Mr. W. Barry, M.R.C.V.S.; auditors, Messrs. Ernest Hunt, Turner and Heslop. The following retiring members of the general committee were re-elected: Messrs. J. H. Burgoyne-Thomas, J. Gray, H. W. Tolan, E. W. Hunt, R. H. Nimmo, W. J. Mason, Geo. XV, Slade, C. Stone, T. A. Wells, J. I. Goldsmith, N. B. Boyd, E. Bull and T. Waugh,
