How to Grow Mushrooms. In response to numerous inquiries, we publish an article on the subject in to-day s notes. Split Carrots. The splitting of carrots is generally caused by irregularities in growth. A dry period results in cessation of growth, but when the soil becomes moist again growth recommences and a "split” inevitable. (P.E.0., Masterton.) How to “Blue” Hydrangeas. The rich, deep blue you desire can be developed by using ordinary alum at the rate of loz. to a gallon of water, applying Ibis every time the plant wants waler. (Miss C.J., Wellington.) . , ’ Wireworms in Soil. \ou can get rid ol the wirewonms by dressing the soil with horticultural na.pthalene, and digging it lightly in. Repeat the operation a month later. In two to three weeks the plot will then be ready for planting. (-Farmer,’ Otaki.) . Poultry Manure. This is a valuab.e manure, but it is very strong, and should never be used until it has matured. Even then it should be mixed with equal quantities of fine soil or sand before using. ("Fowls,” Levin.) Making Salvias Flower. The soil round each plant must be well firmed by treading it down, but the top two inches of soil must be kept, loose by frequent use of the hoe. Salvias need a considerable quantity of moisture. Greenfly troubles the plants and must be checked by spraying with nicotine sulphate diluted in soapy water. (Mrs. lid!., Dower Hutt,).
