Breaches of Traffic By-laws

A Hauge number of Wellington taxidrivers and taxi-cab owners appeared before Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., iu the Wellington Magistrate's Court, yesterday, for failing to display fare cards in tbeir cabs as required by the city council by-laws, and also for failing to have a “vacant” sign or flag fixed to the taximeters in the vehicles. Peter Bardebes, William Cooke, Victor Forsyth, Dudley Osborn aud Colin Charles Thompson, were each fined 10/with 10/- costs on the first charge, and convicted and ordered to pay 10/- costs on the second.

Percy Withers, Arthur Campbell Paterson, Percy Hull, Harry Thomas Hull, Herbert Browne, and Frederick John Biggs were each fiued 10/- with 10/- costs for failure to display fare cards. For failing to have the necessary flag on his taximeter, Albert Morey was convicted and discharged. Parking in a prohibited area, namely, Farish Street, cost George Burt, Frank Barton, Thomas Henry Baker, and Arthur Cooper, 10/- with 10/- costs in each case. For similar offences in Willis Street and Dixon Street respectively, Basil Durham and Donald Irwin were each fined 10/- with 10/- costs.

Anthony Devery was fined 5/- with £1 4/- costs for driving a motor-van in Jervois Quay without exercising due care and attention.

For leaving a motor-vehicle not under proper control iu Brougham Street, Frank Nelson was fined 10/- with 10/costs. It was explained that defendant’s vehicle was parked on the side of the road, and while defendant was away, the vehicle ran downhill and crashed into a fence.
